Classes

What I teach

Every class starts from the same classical form: opening rest, breathing, held postures, final relaxation. What changes is the pace, which parts we keep, and who it is for.

  • Traditional Hatha Yoga

The full classical sequence: pranayama, sun salutations, twelve postures, deep relaxation.

  • Gentle Hatha Yoga

Traditional Hatha, slower and with fewer postures, for beginners, older students and anyone returning after illness or injury.

  • Pranayama, Meditation and Deep Relaxation

Two classical breathing practices, a guided meditation and a long relaxation. No postures, so anyone can take part.

  • Pelvic Floor and Core Yoga

Slow, precise work on the pelvic floor and deep abdominal muscles, after birth or whenever the lower back needs more support.

  • Prenatal Yoga

Postures, breath and rest adapted to each stage of pregnancy, and the breathing you can use in labour.

  • Postnatal Yoga

Gentle work to rebuild the pelvic floor and core after birth, and to ease a tired back, once your doctor or midwife agrees.

  • Family Yoga (children 9 and over)

Parents and children practising together, with postures and breathing suited to each age.

  • Private Sessions

One to one, for anything from the twelve postures to one stiff shoulder, at your hotel, your home or online.

About me

I teach the yoga I was taught, and I tell you why we do each part of it.

I trained in the Sivananda tradition in Kerala in 2015 and have taught ever since, in Germany, in Cambodia and online. I explain why we do each part of the practice; it is a habit I kept from my years as a researcher.

More about me

What students say

The yoga class with Marielisa was absolutely wonderful. She pays incredible attention to detail, beautifully explaining what happens in the body during each stage of the practice and why it matters. The energy in the room was so positive.

Natalia, Poland

The class felt incredibly grounding. The combination of gentle stretching, relaxation, and breath awareness helped me feel fully present and deeply relaxed.

Natacha, Brazil

We invited Marielisa to run a Mum & Kids Yoga session as one of our Mama Tribe & Kids Siem Reap events for the month of June, and it was such a beautiful experience for our group. She created a warm, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere where both mums and children felt comfortable getting involved. The kids had so much fun trying the yoga poses, while the mums enjoyed having some time to slow down, breathe and connect with their children. It was such a lovely way to bring our community together, and we would absolutely love to have Marielisa join us for another session!

The practice

Postures are one part of five

The Sivananda tradition I trained in rests on five points. Many classes stop at the first. All five shape every class I teach.

  • Proper exercise

Twelve classical postures, held, with rest between.

  • Proper breathing

Pranayama: two breathing practices, one that wakes the body and one that settles it, before any posture.

  • Proper relaxation

Savasana, taught with as much care as any posture.

  • Proper diet

Simple vegetarian food, eaten with attention. The tradition's advice, which I pass on and leave with you.

  • Positive thinking and meditation

A few minutes of sitting still, and a habit of noticing where the mind goes.

Breathe in as the circle grows. Out as it settles. Try it for a minute.
